AIRPORT

Ware and Pierce Counties are approximately one hour from the Jacksonville International Airport, which has over 72 jet departures daily. In 1996 more than 3.7 million passengers used Jacksonville International Airport. With JIA’s impressive infrastructure including a 10,000 foot runway, the airport is expected to surpass the 5,000,000 passenger mark by the year 1999. The Jacksonville International Airport is served by ten major carriers, six regional and commuter carriers, and five cargo carriers.

The Waycross Ware County Airport has three runways in excess of 5,000 feet and is located adjacent to the Waycross Ware County Industrial Park. Several improvements, including an ILS (Instrument Landing System) installation, a total upgrade of approach lighting, and a complete renovation of the airport terminal building, were completed earlier this year. Future improvements in 1998 will include the extension of our longest runway to over 6,000 feet.
