Center Elementary School is located in a beautiful setting on Dorothy Street. The first year in their new building, Center Elementary teachers worked to create an optimum environment for learning. After two years of study, the school plans to implement Parallel Block Scheduling in the fall of 1997. The school has benefited from the work of many community volunteers, including the Center High Class of 1952 which adopted a class at Center Elementary. Year round the students enjoy special programs, dynamic speakers, and creative lessons designed to enhance presentation of the curriculum.
The school is excited about the Woodlands and Wetlands project. The Woodlands and Wetlands Outdoor Classroom is an exciting addition to our beautiful facility.
In November of 1996 at the dedication of the new facility, kindergartners performed a song written by their teachers about the school. The words reflect the pride the entire ”Center” community has in its school: This school is your school. This school is my school, from Seminole Trail to Dorothy Street. Among the pines our school stands proudly. Center was built for you and me. We are so proud of our spacious building, our many classrooms with very high ceilings, our well-equipped lunchroom, our big all-purpose room. Center was built for you and me. Dr. Mills and Mrs. Coleman are so very happy. We have a new place where our students feel safe. We want to thank the Board, our parents and teachers too. Center was built for you and me.
