Recreation and Activities

The Okefenokee Area is a great place to have fun. There are an abundance of recreational activities in the area. With the Satilla River, Laura S. Walker State Park, several local golf courses, and Georgia’s Golden Isles next door there is plenty for residents to enjoy year-round. For the fisherman, hundreds of private ponds dot the countryside, and the Satilla River makes a lazy loop through the area. Community recreation departments offer programs designed to keep children and adults busy all year long. Our local recreation departments offer swimming, youth and adult basketball and softball, youth football, cheerleading, and karate.

These comprehensive year-round recreational programs are coordinated through two publicly funded departments with 14 full-time staff members. Throw in the wonders of the world famous Okefenokee Swamp, an active local theater, museums, and the close proximity of Jacksonville, with all its entertainment activities, and it becomes extremely hard not to have fun.
